“Restraint. It’s something that can go a long way in the making of house music. Recent years have shown that it’s often the application of restraint that leads to the creation of something memorable. Paul Loraine knows that. His sound exhibits a kind of subtle tech charm that only raises its head every so often” Resident Advisor
Having only started cutting his teeth in the production world since 2008 Paul Loraine
has had a spectacular string of releases on some of the most renowned labels in the
business, with his work finding its way on to an array of underground electronic
imprints like Vitalik, Four:Twenty, Fondation, Akbal, Flumo, My Favorite Robot,
1Trax, Indigo Raw and Lucidflow. It’s easy to see why Paul’s turning heads world-wide and is a firm favorite within the scene with his natural affinity for house music.
Paul has been described as one of the UK’s best secrets by Mixmag, he made a huge impact behind the turntables right from an early age in his life as a resident DJ for 6 years at the infamous Golden Monkey Club, and with that came a dedicated core following.
“At a certain point in my production process I often find myself referencing late 90 ́s UK garage to remind myself of the simplicity in which early dance music that is personal to me was created”
There’s nothing formulaic or obvious about the music he makes, and he combines a keen sense of what works on the dance floor with a strong emotional quality. It’s a sound that has found favour with music aficionadas and leading DJ’s alike; Jamie Jones, Maceo Plex, Funk D’Void, Magda, Sven Vath, Luciano, Loco Dice, Hernan Catteneo are just a few among those who are incorporating Paul’s tracks into their sets and monthly charts
“I’m a sucker for a good groove, my music is very percussive. I’m not one of these producers that can sit in the studio and write track after track that has no substance or emotional content, with me I write music that people can connect with and is personal to them in some way”
Now based in Barcelona, Paul ́s horizons have broadened even further and things look set to be bright in the foreseeable future.
